Frequently Asked Questions When Choosing a Home Inspector

What qualifications does the inspector have?

Martin has decades of experience - building, renovating and restoring homes.  He knows how Victoria homes work, and how they age. He is a licensed, fully accredited Home Inspector and a member of Home Inspectors Association BC (HIABC). He is also construction trades certified and a former Journeyman Electrician IPTQ. .

How long is the average inspection?

Two to four hours.

Do you inspect to the Standards of Practice of the Home Inspection Industry or higher?

Yes

How much do you charge?

The BC Average is $500 and up for a single family home without special circumstances, $400 for condos.

May I attend the inspection?

Of course, but we will not be able to talk intelligently about the home until we have had time to thoroughly inspect. We find it is most effective and efficient if you join us onsite for a "walk through" after we have had time to inspect. This way we can provide the information you need in an organized manner.

Can you provide approximate costs for repairs and improvements?

Sometimes we can.  But in a real estate transaction it is often advisable to get three quotes from reputable contractors.

Will I get my written report on the same day?

Yes

What is your report like?

Written narrative report with colour photographs.  You get an extensive examination and description of all the important systems of the home.  Photographs of important items are included as well.

Can your send reports electronically?

Yes

Do you solicit, receive or give referral fees?

No

Can I call you, at a later date, for information or advice?

Yes, you can.  And at no cost.

What is your availability?

We can usually schedule an inspection within 48 hours.
